Manslaughter trial continues in Grande Prairie

Sep 20, 2018 | 1:31 PM

A manslaughter trial is continuing in Grande Prairie Court of Queen’s Bench today.

Michael Ginter was originally charged with murder after the death of 34-year-old Nikkolas Steenhuisen. The charge was lowered to manslaughter after a preliminary hearing.

The B.C. man was in Grande Prairie visiting family on May 20, 2016. He came out of a hardware store and found someone he did not know in his truck. The man fled to another truck and tried to drive away. Steenhuisen was on the running board of that second truck, trying to stop the suspect, when he was pinned between it and another vehicle. He was a married man with three kids.

Ginter is facing three other charges. Trial time has been set aside through tomorrow.
