Filming of the city’s Opioid Crisis Video Series is wrapping up.

Angela Sutherland, City of Grande Prairie Community Social Development Manager says they are documenting lived experiences.

“Looking at the localized information on the landscape of opioid use in Grande Prairie and sharing different stories from local people around how opioids have affected them and that ranges from people directly affected, personal use. It could be people that have family members that are struggling, there are people in recovery. There are also different perspectives from front-line workers and first responders.”

The videos are being created in conjunction with the Grande Prairie Opioid Response Task Force and will be available to view on the city’s website once complete.

“There is definitely a hidden population that is struggling with it or know people that are struggling with it and we really want to bring awareness that we all can be affected by this, we all should be aware of it and be able to talk about it.”

According to Alberta Health, there have been 11 opioid-related deaths in the city so far this year, last year, there were 27.
