Passenger traffic up at the GP Airport
There has been an increase in flights in and out of the Grande Prairie Airport in July 2018 says one of the Grande Prairie Airport Commission board members.
Jackie Clayton mentioned the increase during Council Member Reports portion of the Monday night city council meeting.
“It was more of a significant increase than other airports across western Canada have seen and so, all signs indicate that all traffic is going to continue to increase. Therefore, there has been discussions about the plans and how this affect the travel schedule in the fall,” says Clayton.
She says the Grande Prairie Airport Authority has started discussions with the airlines about what the future holds. She adds although there hasn’t been any larger planes added to the airport, it isn’t being left out of the conversation.
With the recent addition of a second security line and a new concession, Clayton says there could be more growth on the way for the building and area.
“The airport continues to work on their overall masterplan which will come to (a) council (meeting) in the near future. In turn, it will look at expansion opportunities and how that will affect the next 20 to 50 years of the airport,” she says.
