Old Fort Evacuation Alert expanded

Oct 3, 2018 | 6:05 PM

An evacuation alert for Old Fort near Fort St. John has been expanded to include more properties.

The Peace River Regional District says the landslide that prompted the original alert Sunday is moving and shifting. Cracks have been seen to the west side of the slide.

PRRD adds it will try to give as much notice as possible if there is an evacuation, but residents should be prepared as that notice may be short.

The original alert was issued Sunday after the landslide cut off the only road to Fort St. John.

A water taxi has been set up on the Peace River between Old Fort and Taylor.

The Peace River Regional District is also hoping to coordinate a school bus service with that water taxi starting next week. Residents are asked to contact the District with their name, number of kids, and the school they attend.
