Underwater, shoreline surveys underway at Bear Creek reservoir
Crews are doing surveys in and around the Bear Creek reservoir this month.
City project technologist Frances Bailey says that will include mapping what is underwater.
“That way, we know the depth of sediment versus what the reservoir had originally. The data collected from that will help us in planning future projects for the reservoir.”
These surveys do not mean another project will soon follow.
“We’re doing the mapping in order to find out what the city will be doing next for the reservoir. There are no projects planned yet,” adds Bailey.
Survey work is also being done along the shoreline.
A release from City Hall says these surveys help determine the reservoir’s ability to handle a big storm. The data gathered will also help come up with an updated flood plain map.
That release also says noise should be minimal and that safeguards are in place in case they come across any protected wildlife.
The work should take the rest of October to complete.
