Charges laid after lengthy chase last week

Oct 18, 2018 | 9:10 AM

A teenaged girl and 35-year-old man face a string of charges following what RCMP call a ‘lengthy chase’ last week.

RCMP were called to the Webster area October 10th after a vehicle was stuck in a ditch and a man got out of the truck acting “eratically” before getting on a quad and leaving the area.

Officers found that the quad and truck were stolen. Police tried to stop the quad but were unsuccessful.

Within a few minutes, a third truck was reported stolen and police tried to stop the vehicle numerous times in order to arrest the suspects. RCMP say the two continued to dodge police.

Police then got air support, emergency response from Edmonton, Spirit River RCMP and Dawson Creek RCMP to help find the vehicle.

The vehicle was located by air support before colliding with two police cruisers.

The 16-year-old has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime while Matthew James Bergeson of Hythe has been charged with numerous offences including:

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
– Theft of Motor Vehicle
– Fail to stop for Police

RCMP have also charged Bergeson with over 20 charges from other incidents that took place in Grande Prairie and Beaverlodge since September 30, 2018.

Those charges are:

– Robbery
– Arson
– Mischief
– Assault Causing Bodily Harm
– Uttering Threats
– Multiple firearms offences
