Oct 24, 2018 | 9:00 AM

One man is dead after an explosion south of Grande Prairie.

Local RCMP were called around 7:20 p.m. last night to wellsite near Musreau Lake owned by Calgary-based Mojek Resources.

The 50-year-old died on scene. Another worker, a man in his 60’s was transported to hospital in Grande Prairie with non-life-threatening injuries. A third man was not physically injured.

Officers say it appears there was a gas leak that has since been contained.

Occupational Health and Safety is investigating.

Alberta Labour spokesman Trent Bancarz says it is hard to say how long an investigation will take.

“They vary. There’s almost no such thing as a typical investigation. They are all quite unique. It’s very hard to put a time limit on them.”

Bancarz says what caused the explosion is not yet known.
