Local business owner seeking nomination for Alberta Party

Oct 24, 2018 | 3:40 PM

A downtown business owner is seeking the nomination for the Alberta Party in the Grande Prairie constituency.

Grant Berg announced his intentions at Centre 2000.

“I want my government to be responsible and accountable. The juvenile mudslinging is not what I expect from government,” said Berg as he began his speech Wednesday.

He explained how his background in broadcasting will help bring the city to the forefront. He spent many years on local radio before heading into his own endeavours.

“I believe it is an MLA’s job to take concerns and the story of the Grande Prairie area back down to Edmonton and to the rest of the province really. I think there is a silent majority in (the city) that need a voice and I want to be the voice.”

He reiterated what he would focus on if put in the position.

“Jobs, jobs, jobs, small business and healthcare, particularly when it comes to the (Grande Prairie Regional) Hospital and mental health,” Berg says.

He adds that the community involvement sets him up to take on this role.

“I have been volunteering since I was a boy scout at 13-years-old, that’s just what we do. I have volunteered at a lot of different things, have a lot of different perspectives and have been involved in the community.”

A date for a nomination meeting has not been set.
