City requesting resident input on budget

Oct 25, 2018 | 5:00 AM

A Citizen Budget launches today to let city residents see how spending can impact their taxes.

The online tool allows people to see where money can go and inform the city on where they would like their spending focused.

Mayor Bill Given says it is a great opportunity for a discussion leading up to budget talks in mid-November.

“(On the website), you can make choices about increasing or decreasing certain services. Those choices would impact what the output would be and ultimately, people get a chance to see what their property taxes would go up or down, based on the choices that they made,” says Given.

According to the mayor, the city has done this before and they use some of the information to shape where the money goes. He adds that input from all year long is collected as well.

Budget deliberations will be held November 14 and 15 at city hall. The tool is available until November 5.

Given encourages people to reach out to city councillors or email citizenbudget@cityofgp.com to provide input prior to deliberations.
