RCMP offer Halloween safety tips

Oct 31, 2018 | 6:27 AM

Local RCMP have some safety tips ahead of trick-or- treaters heading out this Halloween night.

Cpl. Maria Ogden says youth should wear reflectors on their costumes and/or carry a flashlight or glowstick.

“Just so drivers can see them and other trick-or-treaters, it is important to never go into residences because these are strangers.”

Cpl. Ogden adds homes should also prepare.

“People handing out candy, turn their lights on and make sure their pathway is clear of any cords or decorations.”

And always check the candy collected before kids dig in, just in case anything has been tampered with.

“I think parents should check their children’s candy before any candy is consumed just to make sure it is safe and if you find anything suspicious you can report it to the Grande Prairie RCMP.”
