GPRC choir takes performance to Carnegie Hall

Nov 4, 2018 | 4:30 AM

The GPRC Concert Choir is getting a once in a lifetime chance to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York this fall.

The 38 singers will perform Handel’s Messiah on the big stage on Sunday, November 25.

Faculty member and Director of the GPRC Choir Tina Alexander-Luna saw the opportunity through a program offered by Distinguished Concerts International New York.

“I went ahead and sent in the audition materials, so that included video and audio recordings and within a couple of days, their team had met and then we got accepted. So, at that point then I had to approach the choir and the Chair of my department here and just kind of make sure this was okay because this was a huge thing.  And the choir from the moment I told them, they were on board, so it was exciting.”

MacKenzie Lowen, a second year Bachelor of Music student, is thrilled.

“It is such a huge opportunity,” she said.  “We get to sing at Carnegie Hall, which is Ah-mazing! With choirs from around the world.  Honestly, as soon as Tina told me, I didn’t care what the price was, my hand was up, and I was going!”

Those who are interested in seeing a similar performance can on Saturday, December 1 at the Douglas J. Cardinal Theatre.  Parts of that performance will be the same as the one they are doing at Carnegie Hall.  Tickets will be available at the door or through Revolution Place.
