Support sought from community for 2022 AWG bid

Nov 12, 2018 | 8:30 AM

The bid committee looking to bring the 2022 Arctic Winter Games to the Grande Prairie region is asking individuals, businesses and groups to show their support for the games.

Owen Lewis, co-chair of the local bid committee, says you can show your support in a number of ways.

“Providing letters of support, going on to our Facebook page and liking it and sharing it.  And just generally getting behind the bid committee and showing the enthusiasm within the community for the 2022 games.”

Letters of support can be emailed to kebiberdorf@cityofgp.com

You can also add your name to the 2022 Arctic Winter Games Grande Prairie Bid Committee page on change.org.

The deadline to show your support for the bid is this Thursday, November 15th.

Lewis says they have received great support from residents, businesses and local groups so far, but adds they need to get as much support as they can by the deadline.

“I think it was a situationh where people heard that Grande Prairie was bidding for the games and that we would just get them.  That is not the case.”

“We are actually in very tough competition and something that we need to show the sense of community that we have here and the volunteerism that we have in the Grande Prairie region.”

Grande Prairie, who hosted the 2010 AWG, is bidding against Fort McMurray for the right to host the 2022 event.
