Town of Beaverlodge hires new CAO
The Town of Beaverlodge has found its new CAO.
Karen Gariepy is currently with the Crime Prevention office in Grande Prairie.
“Becoming a CAO of a small municipality has always been a goal of mine. I’ve been keeping my eyes open in the surrounding area for a little bit. When Town of Beaverlodge came open, definitely Beaverlodge is near and dear to my heart. I used to live there and I used to work for the Town years ago, so definitely, it feels like going home.”
Gariepy worked for Crime Prevention for over 13 years. She says this will be a big change.
“I have worked in municipal government for over 30 years in different capacities. Definitely, this has been the longest that I’ve stayed in one role and, because there have been so many changes in crime prevention through the entire 13-and-a-half years that I’ve been here, it’s always been a department growing, so definitely it will be a learning curve, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
She does not see any huge challenges ahead for the community.
“I know there likely will be some, but right now I’m open and willing to learn.”
Gariepy starts in her new post January 2.
