One accused to be sentenced, stay in place against another, after death of High Prairie man

Nov 29, 2018 | 12:09 PM

A stay of proceedings is in place against one accused in connection with the death of a man in High Prairie while a second will be sentenced next month.

Alberta Justice says the stay in the case against Dakota Anderson was entered in High Prairie court Monday.

This means the Crown has one year to come up with more evidence or a murder charge will be withdrawn.

The second man charged, Jesse Prestley Laboucan, is due in High Prairie court for sentencing December 11 on a count of manslaughter.

Both were arrested after the 2015 death of 20-year-old Ryan Joseph Ellefson.

RCMP said at the time that Ellefson was found unconscious outside a gas station/convenience store early in the morning of July 29, 2015.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries but later died. An autopsy confirmed his death as a homicide.
