Close to 3000 impaired driving charges laid in Alberta in 2018

Dec 1, 2018 | 6:00 AM

Alberta RCMP say the number of impaired drivers on this province’s roads is still too high.

Police say from January 1 to October 31 this year, 2788 charges of driving while impaired by alcohol were laid, along with 124 for being impaired by drugs.

Police are asking people to plan a safe ride home, to never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, and to remember that cannabis still impairs.

Drivers are also asked to watch road conditions and to prepare their vehicles properly for winter driving.

Party hosts are asked to have taxi information handy, offer guests a spot to sleep overnight, or take away their keys if they are impaired.

Today marks the start of National Safe Driving Week and is also National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
