Kettle campaign in need of volunteers to make goal

Dec 1, 2018 | 4:30 AM

Staff at the Salvation Army are worried that if they don’t get more people to volunteer for their kettle campaign, they might not make their $500,000 target.

“We only have kettles for five weeks, and (the funds) need to last us the whole year,” explained Miranda Harris with the local Salvation Army.  “We do need people to help because if we don’t have volunteers then we need to take the kettles away.  We need people on them at all times.”

They’ve had to shut down a couple of locations early at 6 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. already this campaign.

“We’re trying to get younger people and younger teams helping,” she said.

Captain Peter Kim says the money is coming in a little better than it was compared to what they had raised by this point last year, it’s just the shortage of volunteers they’re concerned about.

“We’re just worried that without volunteers, we won’t be able to hit our target,” said Kim.

The shifts are for just two hours at a time. If you would like to volunteer, please call 780-532-3720.
