Fatal hit-and-run leads to charges against Grande Prairie man

Dec 11, 2018 | 11:30 AM

Charges have been laid against a Grande Prairie man after a fatal hit and run in late October.

The counts against 37-year-old Terris Truax include dangerous driving causing death, failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death, flight from a peace officer, and two charges of possession of property obtained by crime.

Truax will stay in jail until appearing in court December 19.

RCMP said on October 29, they tried to stop a pickup on 116 Street that had been driving erratically. The truck took off. Police did not give chase out of concern for public safety.

The same truck collided with a car at 100 Street and 68 Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.

A 26-year-old man from Edmonton who was driving the car died in hospital.

The driver of the truck had run into the Patterson area. A police dog search at that time could not locate him.
