Old-fashioned winter for the Peace says the Old Farmers Almanac

Dec 21, 2018 | 11:05 AM

The Old Farmers Almanac is predicting a normal winter for the Peace Country this year.

The Almanac’s Jack Burnett says for the for the first time in many years, the publication is predicting a snowy winter right across Canada.

“The differences are in the temperatures. There are a couple of places, BC and southern Ontario, where we expect normal temps. In your neck of the woods, we’re looking at a cold winter.”

He adds the coldest weather should come in the second half of December and the second half of January.

“We’re looking for the snowiest parts to be the second half of January, (the) last week of February, and then the last half, the second half, of April.”

Burnett thinks these conditions should be good for all growers.

“Because the moisture will get into the ground, but it’s not going to be locked in there. I think it’ll flow out in a reasonable rate.”

Winter officially arrives at 3:23 this afternoon.
