Fewer Fentanyl deaths in Grande Prairie in 2018
Alberta Health says the rate of fentanyl deaths is down in our area.
The latest Opioid Response Surveillance Report, which covers the first three quarters of 2018, says the North Zone saw 31 fentanyl-related deaths in the first nine months of 2018, with 16 of those in Grande Prairie.
In all of 2017, there were 58 deaths in the North Zone, with 27 of them in the Swan City.
According to the report, 87% of apparent accidental poisoning deaths related to fentanyl from January 1, 2018, to September 30, 2018, occurred in larger urban municipalities such as Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Fort McMurray, Medicine Hat, and Lethbridge.
The report also says there have been 278 sites registered to distribute naloxone kits in the North Zone from the beginning of 2016 to the end of September 2018.
