“Critical Condition: The Opioid Crisis in Grande Prairie” to premiere next week

Jan 28, 2019 | 5:22 PM

A video series produced to raise awareness about the opioid crisis in Grande Prairie is set to premiere next Tuesday.

“Critical Condition: The Opioid Crisis in Grande Prairie”, which was produced by the Grande Prairie Community Opioid Response Task Force, will be shown from 7-9 PM at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre on February 5th.

The task force, which was created by Mayor Bill Given in 2017, produced the series that will feature profiles from individuals with lived experiences, and others impacted by the crisis in an effort to give multiple perspectives on the issue, and to try and end the stigma surrounding opioid use.

A question and answer period with a panel of front-line workers and people with lived experiences will follow the screening.

In a release, Mayor Given said “The overwhelming response from people willing to participate in the video series speaks directly to the human face of the crisis we are experiencing and how many lives it has touched. Our hope is that the range of perspectives featured in the video series helps break down the stigma surrounding opioid use and demonstrates how we must come together as community to respond,”

Tickets to the event are free, but people are encouraged to pre-register with the Grande Prairie Live Theatre by phone at 780-538-1616 .
