Hillside residents to inspire logo for community entrance sign

Jan 30, 2019 | 11:22 AM

The City is asking residents of the Hillside neighborhood to share positive stories about their community.

The stories are going to be used as inspiration for artwork that will appear on a new entrance sign for Hillside that’s expected to be built in either spring or summer.

Senior Planner with the city Reed Des Roches explains the new sign is part of a list of improvements to the neighborhood.

“The neighborhood entrance feature is part of the implementation of the Hillside Area Revitalization Plan,” says Des Roches. “The plan was approved in 2017 and includes a number of improvements to the neighborhood which included the entrance feature, new trails, custom street signs, boulevard trees as well as parks improvement.”

The City is currently in phase one of three, which is story collecting and creating three logo options. Phase two involves sharing the logos with the public and receiving community feedback on them, and phase three includes developing and presenting the final options and ask the community which they like best.

“The intent is to have an entrance feature just to recognize Hillside as a distinct community, and to have the design reflect what’s important to the people living there. Through the engagement process, we really want to get people thinking about what’s so great about their neighborhood,” says Des Roches.

Stories are being collected until February 12, but Des Roches adds stories will likely be collected after that date as well.

The projected completion date for the entrance sign is spring or summer.
