Court Update: grader shooter going to jail, Beaverlodge man sentenced in Airdrie incident

Feb 5, 2019 | 4:30 AM

The man charged after shots were fired at a grader in Grande Prairie a year ago is going to jail.

Alberta Justice says Dakota Jackson Grey was given a four-year term after pleading guilty to discharging a firearm with intent and possession of a prohibited firearm. He was given a consecutive three-month sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of knowingly being in possession of an unauthorized firearm.

Seven other charges, including attempted murder, pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon were withdrawn.

RCMP said at the time that just before 12:30 a.m. on February 3, 2018, shots were fired at a grader near 100 Street and 84 Avenue.

The driver was not hit by any shots but still needed treatment in hospital for what police called minor injuries.

Mounties said the grader and a suspect vehicle had been involved in a collision.

Jail time for Beaverlodge man after Airdrie-area crimes

Alberta Justice says one of two people from Beaverlodge charged after a fuel theft led to the ramming of a vehicle near Airdrie is going to jail.

Alexandru Sariu pleaded guilty to three charges, including theft over $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000, and evading police January 30 in a Calgary court.

Nine other charges were withdrawn.

Sariu was charged in October of last year after a vehicle that was following a suspected gas thief was rammed by the suspect vehicle.

A man and woman inside ran off on foot and broke into a house. Police found them in the attic.

The woman charged in this case, Shelby Sleith, is due in a Calgary court March 6.

Probation in cut gas line case

A man charged after an incident last July where a gas line was cut has pleaded guilty to a charge of mischief.

Alberta Justice says Sylvain Campion entered the plea January 30 in Grande Prairie court. He was given two-years probation and ordered to pay $13,166.90 in restitution.

Last July 18, police were called to an Ivy Lake residence over a gas leak. They said the line had been deliberately cut and there had was a threat to cause an explosion.
