Monday a record-breaker, Extreme Cold Warning remains in place

Yesterday, if you thought we must be living in the coldest place in Canada – you weren’t far off. 
 
Monday was a record-breaker for Grande Prairie.  The temperature dipped to -43.7C, breaking the Feb 4 record of -39.5C set back in 1975.
 
According to Environment Canada, at one point Monday, Teepee Creek was the cold spot in Canada at -47.1C.
 
Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview and surrounding areas remain under an extreme cold warning today, with wind chills close to minus 50 this morning,
 
Frostbite can develop in a matter of minutes.
 
The extreme wind chill will moderate throughout the day but then dip again overnight.
 
Pet owners are also reminded to not let their pets stay out for too long today. 
 
School bus cancellations are linked below:

Peace Wapiti Public School Division
 
Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools

All Grande Prairie Public School buses are cancelled all day due to the extreme cold temperatures. 
 
All Valhalla school buses are cancelled this morning.

Peace River School Division
 
Northern Gateway School Division buses are cancelled.

The schools will remain open.
