Retrial of man accused of second-degree murder moved to Calgary

Feb 5, 2019 | 1:38 PM

A retrial for a man accused in a stabbing death outside a central Alberta pub is being moved to Calgary.

Daniel Boyd Sawyer is charged with second-degree murder in the November 2015 death of Alan Beach, who died of stab wounds suffered in a fight.

A trial that started in Red Deer last November bogged down over admissibility of evidence, so defence lawyer Chris Archer successfully applied to have the trial moved to Calgary.

Archer has also applied to have the charge against Sawyer dropped due to the lengthy delay in getting the matter to trial.
