Feb 22, 2019 | 5:12 AM

The North Peace Hockey League semi-finals kicked off Thursday night with a pair of Game 1’s.

In Falher, the Pirates hosted the Grande Prairie Athletics.

Despite the Athletics getting out to a slow start trailing 2-0 early in the 1st period, they would respond with five straight goals which would help vault them to a 6-5 win.

Grande Prairie now has a 1-0 series lead with the series shifting back to GP for Game 2.

The other NPHL semi-final saw the Dawson Creek Canucks come out guns a blazing against the Manning Comets winning 9-2.

The game was Dawson Creek’s first game of the post-season following a bye in the 1st round.

Both series will resume on Saturday.
