Feb 23, 2019 | 8:22 AM

For the longest time, a two goal lead has been described as the hardest lead to hold in hockey.

But if you ask the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings, they may have a different story to tell you.

The Kings let a 4-0, second period lead slip away on Friday night, falling 5-4 to the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers in game two of their NWJHL quarterfinal series.

Payton Lappenbush notted a power play goal with 40 seconds remaining to complete the wild comeback, as the Vipers scored four thrd period goals to even the best of five series at one win each.

Thomas LaValley, Gavin Huber, Larry Yellowknee and Clint Lefley also scored for the Vipers, while Corbin Doram, Brent Headon, Blake Gillingham and Justin Rudyk replied for the Kings.

Meanwhile in Fairview, Dawson Gour scored with just 16 seconds remaining in the third as North Peace edged Fairview 2-1 to tie their series at one win each.

Game three in both series go tonight in Clairmont and Peace River respectively.
