Storm close home schedule with big win

Feb 24, 2019 | 8:29 AM

For the second straight night, balanced scoring, special teams, and a commitment to defence all helped the Grande Prairie Storm to a big win over a divisional rival.

Six different players found the back of the net, while four players had multi point nights as the Storm beat Bonnyville 6-2, knocking the Pontiacs out of frst in the North division in the process.

Marc-Antoine Benoit opened the scoring for the Pontiacs with a short handed goal, but the Storm would even it up almost 10 minutes later as Xavier Pouliot intercepted a clearing attempt on a Storm power play and fired a low wrsiter behind Colby Muise.

Vincent Milot-Ouellet would deflect home a Noah Corson shot to give the Storm a 2-1 lead after the first, ony to see Cayden Kraus even the score five minutes into the second.

From that point on though, it was all Storm.

Zach Webb put the Storm up for good 1:42 later, with Zach Okabe adding a short handed goal late in the second to put the Storm up by two after 40 minutes.

Zach Cunningham and Noah Corson added third period goals to round out the scoring, while Kaiden Lane made 29 saves to pick up the win.

The Storm went 1-6 on the power play while killing off all three power play chances given to the Pontiacs en route to their 30th win of the season.

They will wrap up the season with a pair of road games next weekend – Friday in Spruce Grove and Saturday in Sherwood Park.
