Low risk of infection after FHC cleaning issue says AHS

Feb 25, 2019 | 4:17 PM

Alberta Health Services says there is little risk of infection, and no ongoing risk, after an issue with the cleaning of equipment used for endoscopies at the Fairview Health Complex.

AHS says in a release that 507 people who had this procedure in Fairview from November 4, 2013, through January 30, 2019, are being notified that they may have been exposed to infections carried in blood, but the risk is low.

That same release says all endoscopies were stopped when a review of cleaning procedures found that the cleaning of part of the inside of the endoscope did not meet AHS standards.

The problem has been fixed.

Follow-up blood testing is being offered to the patients involved.
