Alberta RCMP are warning motorists not to stop to help people by the side of a road who may be in distress after a would-be Good Samaritan was attacked.

The heads-up comes after a 17-year-old girl was punched in the face west of Edmonton numerous times by a man she stopped to help.

Mounties believe it was a set-up to steal her vehicle.

Police say the teen was absolutely traumatized by the attack.

RCMP say if people see someone in distress they should call police
