Alberta advances to female hockey semifinals

Team Alberta earned a berth in the female hockey semifinals at the 2019 Canada Winter Games with a 3-0 win over Manitoba in the quarterfinals Thursday at the Downtown Arena.

It was a 0-0 score through 20 minutes with Alberta killing off three minor penalties to keep the game goalless.

In the second, Teghan Inglis put Alberta on the board in the fifth minute of play. Sarah Wozniewicz made it 2-0 with less than four minutes remaining in the period.

Alberta locked things down in the third period and put the game away with an empty net goal.

Goalie Bella McKee made 29 saves for the shutout.

Alberta will take on B.C. in semifinals play Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Downtown Arena. Ontario and Quebec play in the other semifinal at 6 p.m.
