Athletics 1 win away from NPHL Final

Mar 1, 2019 | 4:55 AM

The Grande Prairie Athletics are one win away from booking their spot in the North Peace Hockey League Final.

This after a 7-5 win at home in Game 4 of their best of seven series with the Falher Pirates.

Grande Prairie scored early and often against the Pirates and just 3:20 into the 2nd period, the home side led 6-0.

Falher fought their way back in the 2nd half of the contest, but the mountain was too tall to climb for the Pirates as they are now one loss away from having their season come to an end.

The series will resume on Saturday in Falher.

The other NPHL semi-final resumes Friday night.

The Manning Comets will host the Dawson Creek Canucks as they look to extend their season.

Dawson Creek has a 3-0 series lead and a chance to earn their spot in the league final with a road win.

Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m. in Manning.
