Edmonton police have laid 80 charges against four people who are accused of stealing millions of dollars worth of semi-trailer trucks loaded with lumber.

Police allege the four targeted rigs parked overnight in various industrial areas around the city.

They say the lumber was sold to unsuspecting buyers outside of Edmonton.

An investigation into the commercial vehicle theft ring, dubbed “Project Timber” was launched in February 2018.

About $3.5 million worth of property has been recovered so far, including the trucks and trailers.

Three men and a woman face charges that include theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy.
