Senior Canucks advance to NPHL final, NWJHL semis kick off

Mar 2, 2019 | 7:16 AM

They were the best team in the NPHL during the regular season, and now the Dawson Creek Canucks will try to duplicate that in the NPHL playoffs.

The Canucks got a five goal performance from Brett Norman in an 8-2 win over Manning on Friday to wrap up their league semi final series in four straight.

Jonathan Jasper, Riley Muise and Mike Lalonde also scored for the Canucks, who advanced to their first NPHL final in 16 years.

They will now face the winner of the Grande Prairie/Falher semi final.

That series resumes tonight in Falher, with the visitors holding a 3-1 series lead.

Meanwhile, the semi finals in the NWJHL began last night, and it was a good night for the Junior Canucks from the Mile Zero city.

Dawson Creek beat the County JDA Kings 5-3 in the opener of that series, as Chase Henrickson scored three times to lead the way.

Kole Comin and Hayden Dick also scored for DC, while Austin Hrehoruk with two and Nick Miller replied for the Kings.

Game two of that series goes Sunday afternoon at 3 at Crosslink County Sportsplex in Clairmont.

The other semi final opened with North Peace beating Fort St John 4-3 in overtime.

Game two of that series is tonight in Peace River.
