Storm drop nail-biter in Spruce Grove

Mar 2, 2019 | 7:33 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm were 1:04 away from pulling off what would have been a big, late season road win.

However, Seth Fyten tied the game late in the third, setting the stage for TJ Lloyd’s winner at the 59 second mark of overtime to give Spruce Grove a 4-3 win over the Storm.

Fyten and Parker Saretsky gave the Saints a 2-0 lead by the midway point of the second, before the Storm started to chip away at the deficit.

Zach Cunningham’s 6th of the season sent the Storm to the dressing room down by only one after 40 minutes.

Then, goals just over two minutes apart by Noah Corson (16:13) and Zach Webb (18:16) gave the Storm their only lead of the evening.

Kaiden Lane made 31 saves to take the OT loss, while the Storm directed 21 shots at Matthew Davis.

The Storm will wrap up the regular season tonight in Sherwood Park against the North Division leading Crusaders.

Then it is off to the playoffs, and a first round matchup against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, which begins late next week in the Oilsands city.
