A Calgary man has been sentenced to two years in jail after admitting to fraudulently raising money from investors while he was banned from doing so.
The Alberta Securities Commissions says Neil Andrew McDonald — also known as Neil Andrews — was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to seven Criminal Code charges.
The court heard McDonald violated Alberta securities law in 2009 and was banned from trading or advising in securities for several years, but he broke the ban about two years later and was eventually given a two-year jail sentence in 2015.
McDonald also faces 18 months of probation upon release and has also been ordered to pay restitution of nearly $419-thousand.
