Extra time needed for Grande Prairie murder trial

Mar 8, 2019 | 4:17 PM

A Grande Prairie murder trial will have to go longer than expected.

Ten days had been set aside for the trial of Nicholas Richard Harris.

The Edmonton man is accused in the shooting death of John William Rock, also from Edmonton, outside of the Canadian Brewhouse in 2014.

The Crown case took up all of the time that had originally been set aside.

The defence still has to call its witnesses.

The trial will resume Monday.

An agreed statement of facts read aloud in court Friday says shell casings from two weapons were found at the scene.

There were casings from a .38-calibre firearm found near the Brewhouse entrance and more casings from a 9-millimetre found about 30 metres away.

A pair of trucks were struck after Rock was shot.
