City of Edmonton taking over animal abuse enforcement

Mar 13, 2019 | 8:23 AM

The City of Edmonton has taken over animal abuse enforcement and it is not going to be cheap.

Peace officers took over the enforcement of Alberta’s Animal Protection Act after the Edmonton Humane Society announced it would no longer do it.

The city estimates it will cost about 800,000 dollars per year.

And that means pet owners may have to pay more in licence fees to help pay for the new program.

City council is to discuss the plan next month.
