Shannon Dunfield has been named the Alberta NDP’s candidate for the Grande Prairie-Wapiti riding for the 2019 provincial election.

Dunfield currently works as the manager for Indigenous Health and Diversity for Alberta Health Services in the Northern zone.

She has previously worked at the Grande Prairie Public School District as the Coordinator of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Programs.

“Having worked in health care and education, I know the importance of strong public services,” said Dunfield in a release. “I am running to be a part of Rachel Notley’s team because like her, I believe that all Albertans deserve access to high-quality health care and excellent schools no matter where they live or how much money they make.”

Dunfield currently serves as the Vice-President of Metis Local 1990 and also held positions such as the Indigenous and Heritage Chair of the 2018 Summer Games, and Co-Chair of the Grande Prairie Aboriginal Circle of Services.

“I joined Rachel’s team because I see what she has done the last four years. She has been engaging Albertans in a curriculum rewrite that will move our province forward in education; ensuring all Albertans have equal access to health care; and she is working hard to support our oil and gas industry while ensuring we look at policies to protect our environment,” Dunfield said. “But most of all, Rachel has shown us she cares about every Albertan.”
