Election forum set for April 9 at GPRC

Mar 21, 2019 | 5:32 AM

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce’s all-candidates forum will take place exactly one week before the provincial election.

The Chamber’s Tom Pura says the forum is set for April 9 at the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre at Grande Prairie Regional College.

“The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. when the candidates will be available in the foyer just outside the theatre. They will have information and they will be able to meet some of the attendees for the forum if they so choose.”

The forum itself starts at 6:30 p.m. Pura says the public will be able to submit written questions.

“They will go to a panel who will sort the questions and then provide them to the moderator who will forward them to the candidates. That allows for a better variety of questions and eliminates the possibility of a question and a topic being repeated over and over again.”

He thinks this is a good chance for some one-on-one time with those running in the April 16 election.

“Not all the candidates can get to every door, to knock on every door to reach all the electorate and to reach everyone that could potentially vote in the election. Rather than them come to you, this way, you can come to them.”

Pura says the forum will also be streamed live on the Chamber’s Facebook page.
