Two Swan City products collide in 1st round of WHL playoffs

Mar 22, 2019 | 4:59 PM

The Western Hockey League’s post season will begin Friday night and a pair of Grande Prairie products will meet in the Eastern Conference quarter-finals.

19-year-old blue liner Reece Harsch will be looking for another lengthy run in the playoffs with his new club after he was dealt ahead of the WHL’s trade deadline.

Since joining the Blades he has registered 2 goals and 8 assists in 29 games.

Harsch won a WHL title back in 2016-2017 as a 17-year-old with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Harsch’s Blades will meet Kjell Kjemhus of the Moose Jaw Warriors in the opening round.

Despite being just 17, Kjemhus is playing for his 3rd team in the Western Hockey League after being originally drafted by the Regina Pats, then traded to the Prince George Cougars as part of the Jesse Gabrielle trade last season and followed it up by being dealt to Moose Jaw on December 3rd.

Since being traded, Kjemhus has appeared in 43 games with the Warriors and has 3 goals and 1 assist.

The 1st round series is set to begin Friday night in Saskatoon.
