Volunteers needed at local Pregnant and Parenting Teens organization

Mar 24, 2019 | 7:00 AM

Pregnant and Parenting Teens in the city is looking for volunteers.

Melodie McCracken is the Executive Director for the organization and says they need volunteers in a few different areas.

“We’re looking for childcare volunteers, fundraising volunteers, maybe some office volunteers. We also do a lot of community fundraising events; so, it might be event planning or it could be ticket selling.

Just recently the organization put out the call for volunteers and the response has been great.

“We have had over 75 inquiries. Right now, in our childcare department we are looking for five individuals, and with our events we can have up to 20 individuals volunteering at a time.”

To volunteer with children, you need to complete a child welfare check and a criminal record check.

The pregnant and parenting teen program is an origination in Grande Prairie that supports adolescents to have healthy decision-making around becoming pregnant as an adolescent and working with them to make positive choices for themselves and their children. Every year the organization serves about 100 families.

Adolescents that are looking for information or people looking for volunteer opportunities can call the office at (780) 538-3854.

“If you’re interested in volunteering, just give us a call and we will see where your interested and skills fit, and we will try to put your good resources to use.”
