Town of Wembley gets new CAO

Mar 26, 2019 | 12:22 PM

The Town of Wembley has announced the appointment of a new Chief Administrative Officer. Effective April 8, Noreen Zhang will be taking over for Lori Parker.

“I’m looking forward to being able to provide my knowledge and background and my fresh point of view on what they’ve been working towards,” says Noreen Zhang, incoming Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Wembley.

Two months ago, Parker announced her resignation from the position she held for 12 years, citing relocation to Edmonton to be closer to her family.

Zhang has a variety of previous experience related to the new role, having worked with the Assessment Review Board, the Subdivision Appeal Board and in risk management and municipal governance.

“At the City of Grande Prairie, I worked at the Legislative Services Department which involved reviewing contracts and policies, insurances with management, as well as with other appeal boards that involve different processes that are subject to the municipal government act,” said Zhang.

In addition, Zhang also studied Public Administration at the University of Alberta. She completed both levels of the National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration.

“It’s something that I’d like to be a part of, they have so many exciting projects and initiatives that I would like to see through and be a part of.”

When asked about some of the projects she’s most looking forward to working on she notes the current Aquatera water project.

“The water service that is going through the Town of Wembley is going to open a lot of opportunities for the town and the surrounding areas because that will also bring many of the options for industrial and residential development.”

Zhang says she wants to focus on supporting existing projects until she gets better acquainted in her new role, “I want to make sure that I don’t stall or slowdown that process or that energy that they have.”

“I’m looking forward to working with the council and seeing all of their visions for the Town of Wembley.”– Zhang
