14 overdoses in 4 days say Grande Prairie RCMP

Apr 2, 2019 | 3:13 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP say they, along with Alberta Health Services, have been called to 14 drug overdoses in the last four days.

Police say they have found a trend of pink and purple pills being used. Their investigation points to these pills being heroin.

Mounties are warning users of illegal drugs to be careful when both buying and using, say that they should have a naloxone kit, and never use drugs when they are by themselves.

Signs of an overdose include slow breathing or not breathing at all, choking or vomiting, nails and lips turning blue, cold and clammy skin, and gurgling sounds coming from the drug user.

Emergency departments, community clinics, and pharmacies all have naloxone kits. The full list of locations can be found at www.drugsafe.ca
