Event aimed at introducing the public to media art taking place at the Art Gallery Saturday

The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie is holding an event this weekend to introduce the community to one of its media arts exhibits.

The piece that will be focused on is called “Ways of Something,” which is a part of Lorna Mills’ Glamour and Vapours exhibition.

Ways of Something contains four-part episodes, and the introduction will cover the first two episodes that have screened at the gallery so far.

Curator of Exhibitions and Collections Derrick Chang says the event is a good starting point for those in the community to get introduced to media art. He explains this piece by Mills is aimed at taking a look at the power images have over us.

“I think she sums it up nicely in one of her statements. She calls it art about art about television about the internet,” says Chang. “So, it’s really about the way in which, throughout history, we’ve come to see things in the world, and how that’s changing in this new digital age.”

Chang will be leading the introduction which begins April 13 from 2 – 3 p.m. at the gallery.

Chang adds the event is free and open to the public.
