Repeat fire at metal recycling business in Calgary

Apr 24, 2019 | 9:26 AM

CALGARY – Thick, black smoke greeted firefighters as they arrived at the scene of an early morning fire at a metal recycling business in southeast Calgary.

About a dozen firefighters were initially called around 6 a.m. to Calgary Metal Recycling.

They used a combination of hoses and a ladder truck to pump vast amounts of water onto the fire, which forced the closure of a number of roads in the area during the morning commute

Officials say piles of debris made it difficult to determine the source of the flames, but the blaze was brought under control in about an hour.

There are no reports of injuries.

There have been three other fires at the business over the past six to seven years, including one in 2012 that burned for two weeks.
