A work depicting a close-up of a wolf is this year’s winner of the Beauty of the Peace art competition.

The airbrush called El Lobo is by local artist Daniel Sanchez.

Grant Berg hosted the competition at his gallery in downtown Grande Prairie

He says it more popular than ever.

“We had some amazing artwork this year. Last year, we had 300 people come in to vote on it. This year, we had just shy of 600, so, again, amazing response. People really loved seeing local artists and the quality of work that they’re doing.”

He adds Sanchez finished second last year.

“Daniel just has massive, amazing upside. He’s been down to Mexico this year, learning from some of world’s best. Now, he’s in Boston exploring some opportunities.”

Berg says the competition started with an open call for artists to submit their works.

“Amateur artists that we don’t represent to submit their artwork that represented beauty of the Peace. Now, beauty of the Peace can mean anything to any artist, so we had a wide range of artwork submitted by the 26 artists.”

Sanchez gets a framed, limited edition reproduction of his work, plus a one year representation at Grant Berg Gallery.

Beauty of the Peace returned last year after being dormant for a half-dozen years.
