Keillor & Bomersback re-sign with Storm for 2 years

During their press conference Tuesday afternoon, the Grande Prairie Storm announced they have re-signed both Head Coach Matt Keillor and General Manager Mark Bomersback to two-year contract extensions.

The pair came into the organization two years ago and have guided the Storm back into being competitive in the North division in the AJHL.

“For both of us we want see this out,” stated Head Coach Matt Keillor.

“We have put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes. We feel that this is our group. This is the group that we have recruited, and we want to continue to develop these guys and see these guys not only bring a championship back to Grande Prairie, but to move on to play post-secondary hockey wherever that may be.”

During their first year with the club in the 2017-2018 season the Storm finished with a 28-29-3 record, finished 4th in the AJHL’s North division, and advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Despite being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in the 2018-2019 campaign, the Storm did improve on the regular season record finishing 30-26-4.

The slight improvement record wise was even more impressive considering the club was the youngest in the AJHL in 2018-2019 and as General Manager Mark Bomersback noted this is just part of the plan to build a contender here in the Swan City.

“We did a lot of work as a group as a whole. We want to see this through. Take these next two years and build a really strong team. We are off to a great start with how young our team was last year. We are excited to see those guys come back next year as 18 and 19-year-old guys and see how they do.”

Bomersback added the ultimate goal is to be a contending team each and every year, and he feels the organization is taking the right steps to do so.

Both Bomersback and Keillor stated they have signed some new players for next season, and they should have some announcements on them coming up shortly.

The Storm will be hosting their southern spring camp this weekend in Calgary where they are expecting close to 80 players to take part.
