Court update: Final sentences in murder case, Beaverlodge pair sentenced in Calgary court

Alberta Justice says two other people charged after the 2017 murder of a 16-year-old girl in Grande Prairie have been sentenced on reduced charges.

David Comber and Austin Haynes had each been facing an accessory after the fact to murder charge after the death of Hannah Sutton.

On Monday, Comber was given six-months time served after pleading guilty to obstructing a peace officer. Earlier, Haynes was given 23 months time served for attempted accessory to manslaughter. Both were also given one year probation.

A charge of accessory after the fact to murder against a third man, Darian Chonkolay, was withdrawn April 9.

A young offender had also been charged at the time of Sutton’s death.

She died after being shot while in a home in Grande Prairie December 16, 2017. Justice Watt-Blais, her boyfriend at the time, had been charged with murder.

He was given a seven year sentence, with 618 days credit for time spent in custody, after pleading guilty to a count of manslaughter on February 5 this year.

Beaverlodge pair sentenced after crimes near Airdrie

Two people from Beaverlodge charged after an incident last fall near Airdrie have been sentenced by a Calgary court.

Alberta Justice says Shelby Sleith was given time served after pleading guilty to charges that included theft under $5000, unlawfully in a dwelling house, and possession of a controled substance April 10. She was given 38 days credit for time spent in jail.

On January 30, co-accused Alexandru Sariu was given an eight-month jail term after pleading guilty to charges that included theft over $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000, and failing to stop a vehicle for a peace officer. Nine other counts were withdrawn.

The pair was charged after an October 22 incident where someone gave chose after he thought he saw a vehicle involved at a gas theft from a rural property near Airdrie.

The suspect vehicle rammed the man’s vehicle, leaving the first one in no condition to drive.

A man and woman inside ran away and broke into a home, where they were found hiding in the attic.
