Gervais resigns as Reeve of M.D. of Greenview

After serving more than six years as the Reeve of the M.D. of Greenview, Dale Gervais has decided to resign from his position, effective May 9, 2019.

Gervais will continue in his post as a councillor for Ward 2-Little Smoky but will not be seeking re-election in the next election. He said the decision comes as he makes the move towards retirement.

“I have a bucket list I have to get to before it can’t be done,” said Gervais. “It’s just a time commitment. I’m trying to ween myself off municipal politics and have more time for family and hobbies and all that good stuff.”

Gervais has served on Greenview council for over 16 years and has been a part of many projects he is proud of in his time. Signing the Tri-Municipal Partnership with the City of Grande Prairie and County of Grande Prairie is high on that list of achievements, but the one that stands out the most is the completion of the Greenview Regional Multiplex in Valleyview.

“It was a nine-year process… from conception to opening. Those are a lot of hurdles and it seems like the things you have to work the hardest for, you get the most enjoyment out of,” said Gervais. “The enjoyment the whole community is getting from that facility and the way it’s being used is absolutely fantastic.”

He also noted one project he would like to see completed in the future is the paving of the Forestry Trunk Road. He said he will be spending his remaining time on council pushing for that project to be completed.

Taking over the role as Reeve will be Ward 5-New Fish Creek councillor Dale Smith, who has served on council since 2013. Gervais says he has the utmost confidence in Smith’s leadership abilities.

“He is a very competent individual and I have no qualms about his leadership ability and the direction that he will lead council in,” said Gervais. “I know Dale will step up to the plate and do a fantastic job.”
