County of Grande Prairie bringing in fire ban

A fire ban will be in place in the County of Grande Prairie as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Wembley, and Hythe are included in the ban.

Outdoor fires, including burning barrels, fireworks, and fire pits will all be prohibited. Propane and natural gas stoves and barbecues will still be allowed.

All existing permits will be revoked under the ban and no new ones will be issued.

The County Fire Service says anyone who does not comply with the ban can face a fine of $5,000 plus have to pay the cost of any response from the fire department.
